Ingredients:
1/2-1 lb bacon, fried (reserve bacon grease)
1/4C-1/2C flour
approximately 2 pints milk
salt & pepper to taste
Can of biscuits, cooked
Instructions:
Fry bacon in skillet until crisp then remove, keeping bacon grease in the pan. Add flour to create a roux, then add milk. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer, and cook for about five minutes. Serve on warm biscuits! You can substitute the milk with evaporated milk or water if needed! Use more or less of each ingredient (bacon, flour, and milk) depending on how many you will be serving. The less people... then use the lesser amounts given. The more... use more! :)
Note about this recipe: My Grandma Lovell taught me this recipe after Addison was born. Instead of bringing in dinner, I asked her and my Grandpa to come over and make Adam and I her famous Biscuits & Gravy for breakfast. When she came, I took down the ingredients and instructions as best I could and have made this several times trying to duplicate her skill! I can't say that I am any match for my Grandma in the kitchen... but each time I make this recipe I think of my Great-Grandma Church and my Grandma Lovell and I am so appreciative to them both... I come from a long line of amazing women (as most women do). :) Grandma told me she grew up on this recipe and that her mom would make it for her family, even if they didn't have bacon! I love that I can now make this infamous & very special family recipe for my own family... and someday I will teach my children to make it for their families and tell them the story behind it and pass it down another generation!
These look yummy. I am going to try them this weekend.
